In my previous blog post, I discussed why practicing self-care is a necessity and not a luxury. Having a self-care routine is important. Once you establish one, it will be easy to follow and maintain. Choosing products that are natural & plant-based would not only good for your skin, but it could also potentially contribute to your overall health and wellness.
It is also essential to keep it short and simple. If it is too long and difficult it will be hard to maintain. A good self-care routine will go beyond beauty products. It should also include a nutritious diet, exercise, healthy habits as well as things you enjoy doing and fill you up.
Here are some simple ideas (not in any particular order) to incorporate into your daily routine. The first three are crucial to start a good & healthy routine. It would be a good idea to start with two or three and add to your routine as you go and as you are able to manage:
Be intentionally grateful.
Have a positive attitude
Release Negativity. You can do this!
Get at least 7 to 8 hours of sleep
Get up early every day
Wash up, get dress and fix your hair and if you wear makeup, do so
Have a nutritious breakfast. Skip the sugary treats and go for healthy grains and fresh fruit or a smoothie
Read your Bible. Spend some time with God
Have a wholesome lunch. Skip the fast-food.
Exercise. If you can’t afford the gym, find a good Yoga, Pilates, or weight training video on YouTube and follow that. You can mix and match with your week exercises.
Go out for walks at least three times or as weather allows.
Read a good book
Treat yourself to something new
Explore a new hobby or fun activity
Ditch soda and sugary drinks
Drink more water
Laugh more often! Watch a comedy!
Watch a romantic movie
Pamper yourself
take a hot bath with bath salts and essential oils - my favorite: Lavender or Cedarwood
Get (or give yourself) a mani-pedi
Try a new makeup product
Exfoliate
Try this DIY mask
1 tbsp honey, 1tbsp lemon juice, 1 tbsp of ground nutmeg, 1 tbsp of powdered cinnamon, 2 drops of nutmeg essential oil, 2 drops of cinnamon bark essential oil. Make it: Combine all ingredients in a medium-sized bowl to form a thick paste. The paste should have a consistency that sticks to your skin. Add lemon juice or other ingredients as necessary to reach your desired thickness. Apply the paste to your entire face or to affected areas. After 20 minutes, rinse off the mask and pat dry.*
20. Write yourself a love letter
21. Mindful meditation
22. Cook a healthy new recipe.
.
Which ones of these are you going to try first?
