Three Ways to Open Doors in 2021

A few years ago I heard a sermon at church that really impacted my life.  I stumbled upon the notes I wrote for that sermon.  Unfortunately, I failed to write the name of the preacher.  But the Word given that day still applies to us today!

We all experienced a lot of hardships during this year.  I think I am not wrong when I say we want doors to open for us in 2021, am I right? We want new opportunities, new challenges, more victories, and for sure a better year.

What I want to share with you is some of those notes I took that day and what God showed me and reminded me today.

Three ways to open doors

  1. Keep God’s word:  Read Revelations 3:8  - This wonderful verse says “I have placed before you an open door that no one can shut”  What a great promise we have from God.  He is telling us doors are opening for us.  “An open door” can mean many things such as:

    1. An open door to speak to others about Jesus

    2. An open door to new opportunities to be a light in the darkness of this world.

    3. An open door to be a good example to those who are close to us.

    4. An open door to serve others with a cheerful heart.

We must keep God’s word so that door can open for us.  Why is this important? Because by knowing what God’s plan is for us, we will be able to walk in His will. We will only know this by keeping and reading His Word.  The Bible is our life roadmap.  Without it, we are lost.

  1. Praise: Read Acts 16:25-26 - This passage is one of my favorites.  Paul & Silas were in jail, with chains on their feet (see verse 24) and still, they were praising God - singing hymns.  Wow! What would be our state of mind if we were in jail today for something we did not do? Paul and Silas were in jail for preaching the Gospel.  Talk about peace! A bit of history for you - jails in Paul’s day were not like our modern jails. They were dark and humid.  It was no Holiday Inn, folks! But yet, Paul and Silas found the will power and the inspiration to sing praises to God. We most likely will face adversity in 2021 - but we need to continue praising God through it all.  We need to have a mindset shift and keep our eyes on Jesus.  If you keep reading the passage, you will find out how God opened the doors - and broke the shackles of their feet - for them to escape the prison and continue with their mission.

  1. Prayer: Read Colossians 4:2-4.  Prayer is the key! If we want doors to open for us in 2021 - we must pray.  Pray with faith.  Pray with thanksgiving in our hearts.  Pray without ceasing.  Talk to God - tell him what you want, what you are grateful for, what you desire.  He longs to talk to you and to show you wonderful things.  Prayer can open many doors! Prayer needs to be the default and the go-to solution to any hardship we face.

These are great reminders of God’s promises.  The door God opens, nobody can close! I am not sure what 2021 is bringing, but what I do know for sure is that God is with me and I have decided to follow Jesus, in good times and bad times.

Hey, check out my latest vlog - A mindset shift I had to learn - and tell me what you think!

Something big is happening!

Something big is happening!

I have always been that person others seek for advice, encouragement, guidance, and prayer.  I have gone through various experiences in my life which have helped me to be empathetic towards others who are going through similar experiences I went through.  I am a firm believer that the things and circumstances we go through not only make us stronger but what we learn from them can help others too.  Empathy is powerful! When one person understands or emphasizes with another person, it can be a real blessing.

Not long ago I heard about life coaching.  It is an industry that is on the rise.  Life Coaches help clients deal with everyday stress, time management, goal setting in order to help them attain greater fulfillment in life.  According to Wellmind.com Life coaches can help a person clarify goals, identify the obstacles holding you back, and then come up with strategies for overcoming each obstacle. In creating these strategies, life coaches target your unique skills and gifts. By helping you to make the most of your strengths, life coaches provide the support you need to achieve long-lasting change.”

That sounded super exciting to me.  It really intrigued me and I decided to look into it.  However, self-doubt and negative thoughts flooded my mind.  Thoughts such as:  “What if nobody cares?”What if you can’t help others?” “Look at you! You can’t even keep your desk organized for more than a week” It was exhausting and devastating.  I almost gave up without even starting!

That’s when I went to the Word of God.  As I had written before, I find my affirmations in God’s Word. Nothing else can be more encouraging, uplifting, and fulfilling than what God has to say about us.  God’s Word is my roadmap for this life.  God took me to 1 Peter 4:10 which reads: As each has received a gift, use it to serve one another, as good stewards of God's varied grace.”  Matthew 5:16 says  “In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.”  I also read Hebrews 13:16 which says “Do not neglect to do good and to share what you have, for such sacrifices are pleasing to God.”  Jesus himself gave us a great example of serving others.  I understand now this isn’t about me! It is about who I get to serve!!

When that “clicked” in my head, I knew God was calling me for this.  I told my husband, and honestly, I thought he would say something “are you sure you can do this?” but instead he said, “I think you would be amazing at this!”

So, I looked at various courses - because I really feel being equipped and prepared is better than just “wing it” - I have never, ever been a “wing it” kinda gal! I like to be ready.  There are different prices and training for this certification, but I chose the Professional Life Coaching certification, with an emphasis on life-skills, family life, and health & wellness.

I have set myself the goal to finish my certification by mid-December - as I am taking it ever so easy and learning a lot!

So I ask you to keep me in your prayers.  Every now and then those negative thoughts want to infiltrate my mind - pray I stand firm in His word.
